Inp.polri.go.id - Banda Aceh. In a continuing wave of Rohingya migration to Aceh, 220 Rohingya refugees consisting of 68 adult males, 79 adult females and 73 children arrived in Pidie regency seeking shelter in the villages on Sunday (19/11/2023).
The group took refuge in the Gampong Kulee mosque in the Batee district of Pidie, Aceh. Their arrival was spotted by local residents, and the authorities were immediately alerted.
Ihsan, the Batee district chief, said that security forces, the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR), were conducting a census of the refugees at the mosque, antaranews.com reported.
He said that medical and food assistance has been provided to meet their immediate needs.
Tengku Muhammad, the Head of Gampong Kulee, said that he had no knowledge of their route to the village and stressed the need for a thorough investigation.
This was the third group of Rohingya migrants to arrive in Pidie. Aceh has seen a significant influx of Rohingya refugees throughout the week. On Tuesday, 200 people landed on the shores of Gampong Blang Raya in Muara Tiga regency, Pidie, with six escaping. The following day, another 147 Rohingya immigrants arrived on the coast of Beurandeh, Batee district, Pidie.
Both groups were accommodated at the Yayasan Mina Raya camp in Gampong Leun Tanjung, Padang Tiji regency, Pidie.
