inp.polri.go.id - Palembang. A total of 374 inmates at the Class IIA Women's Penitentiary in Palembang, South Sumatra, received general remission to commemorate the 81st Anniversary of Indonesian Independence.

The Head of the Class IIA Women's Penitentiary in Palembang, Desi Andriyani, stated in Palembang on Tuesday (8/18/2026) that of the total recipients, four inmates received General Remission II (RU-II) and were immediately released, while the other 370 received RU-I, a reduction in their sentences ranging from one to six months.

The granting of remission rights at the Palembang Women's Penitentiary is based on meeting administrative and substantive requirements stipulated by law. These requirements include having served at least six months of their sentence.

The substantive requirements include demonstrating good behavior, complying with regulations, and actively participating in all correctional programs.

Of the 517 inmates at the Class IIA Women's Penitentiary in Palembang, 374 were declared eligible for sentence reductions.

Yulius Sahruzah, Head of the South Sumatra Regional Office of the Directorate General of Corrections, emphasized that remission serves as both a state award and a stimulus for inmates to continue improving themselves. 

Correctional success is measured by changes in inmates' behavior, leading them to become productive members of society and not to reoffend.

MS, an inmate who received RU-II and was immediately released, expressed her gratitude for the remission and committed to using the rehabilitation program to start a new life with her family.
