Inp.polri.go.id - Nabire. A Smart Air Cessna 208B Grand Caravan (PK-SNS) crashed into the coastal waters of Nabier in Central Papua, specifically near the Kaladiri logpond area, shortly after takeoff on Tuesday (27/1/2026).
Despite the impact in the water, local authorities have confirmed a miraculous outcome: all 15 people on board, including passengers and crew, survived the incident.
The aircraft was en route from Nabire to Kaimana when the incident occurred at approximately 12:45 pm local time. Local residents and emergency teams rushed to the site near the shoreline to assist in the evacuation.
"It is true that a Smart Air aircraft flying from Nabire to Kaimana crashed into the coastal waters. We are relieved to report that all passengers and crew members are safe," said Nabire Sub-regional Police Chief Superintendent Samuel Tatiratu, as cited by antaranews.com.
The Nabire Police and airport authorities have secured the crash site to prevent unauthorized access. The National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) is expected to launch an investigation to determine the cause of the crash, whether due to technical failure or weather conditions. The survivors have been transported to the nearest medical facility for check-ups and treatment for minor shock and injuries.
