Inp.polri.go.id - Jayapura. Lanny Jaya Sub-regional Police Chief, Senior Inspector Nursalam Saka, confirmed that the perpetrators of an attack that killed two police officers and injured a civilian were members of an Armed Criminal Group (KKB) from Puncak, Central Papua.
"The perpetrators have been identified, and they are suspected of attempting to destabilize security in Lanny Jaya Regency," he said on Saturday (14/12/2024), as quoted by antaranews.com.
The attack claimed the lives of Brigadier Triyuda Ardigantara and Chief Brigadier Hidayat, both from the Lanny Jaya Police. A civilian with gunshot wounds is currently being treated at Wamena Regional Hospital.
Despite the attack, the situation in Lanny Jaya is now relatively calm, with displaced residents returning to their homes or accommodations.
Previously, clashes among supporters of rival candidates for regent and deputy regent in Tiom escalated, leading to the burning of homes and the displacement of 557 people to police, military, and other secure facilities.
While community activities are gradually resuming, authorities continued to assess the number of homes and vehicles damaged during the unrest.
