Inp.polri.go.id - Serang. The Banten Regional Police have named three businessmen as suspects in an alleged extortion and incitement case related to PT China Chengda Engineering’s industrial project in Cilegon, Banten.

Director of General Crimes at the Banten Police, Senior Superintendentl Dian Setyawan, confirmed on Friday (16/5/2025) that the suspects are identified as MS (Chairman of Cilegon’s Chamber of Commerce/Kadin), IA (Deputy Chair of Kadin’s Industry Division), and RJ (Head of the Cilegon branch of the Indonesian Fishermen’s Association/HNSI).

“They pressured the company to hand over project packages without a tender process,” said Chief Setyawan, as quoted by antaranews.com.

The alleged coercion involved demands for Rp 5 trillion in projects. Suspect IS reportedly banged on a table and demanded project rights during meetings on 14 and 22 April 2025 with PT Chengda and PT Total, a contractor. Suspect RJ allegedly threatened to halt the project if HNSI wasn't included. Suspect MS is also accused of mobilizing mass protests at the site.

Each suspect faces different charges under the Criminal Code (KUHP), including Articles 160, 335, and 368. The case gained public attention after a viral social media post on 11 May 2025.
