Rahmat Bagja, Chairman of Election Supervisory Board (Bawaslu), affirmed that participants in the 2024 elections are prohibited from distributing free staple goods during the campaign period. "Organizing a bazaar and selling staple goods is permissible. What is prohibited is giving them away for free. The focus is on providing staple goods, not distributing them without cost," he emphasized on Friday (2/2/2024). Chairman Rahmat revealed that Bawaslu has identified allegations of election violations related to the distribution of complimentary staple goods. Ongoing investigations are underway, including in West Sumatra. However, he chose not to elaborate further on allegations that the campaign team of a presidential and vice-presidential pair distributed complimentary staple goods in East Jakarta.
