Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) has issued a high-level alert for torrential rain across several Indonesian provinces and major cities this Monday (16/3/2026).
Forecasters warn that heavy to extreme rainfall is expected to lash Bangka Belitung, East Java, East Nusa Tenggara, West Kalimantan, and parts of Papua. This surge in precipitation came after a shift in atmospheric conditions, prompting authorities to urge residents in these high-risk zones to bolster disaster preparedness against potential flooding and landslides.
"Preparedness must be increased for the potential of heavy to very heavy rain in the regions of Bangka Belitung, East Java, East Nusa Tenggara, West Kalimantan, Central Papua, and Papua," said BMKG forecaster Anisa during a morning weather briefing, as cited by antaranews.com.
In major urban centers, thunderstorms are predicted for Surabaya, Bandar Lampung, and Banjarmasin, while Jakarta and Bandung face persistent light rain throughout the day. Residents are advised to monitor official channels as visibility remains low in northern Sumatra due to heavy fog and overcast skies.
