inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Police arrested five men suspected of being debt collectors after they reportedly intimidated a motorcyclist, Eko Febriansyah, on Menceng Raya Road, Kalideres, West Jakarta, on Tuesday (10/20/2026).
The case began when Eko claimed he was approached by a group of men as he was leaving for work. The situation escalated after the men allegedly forced him to inspect his motorcycle, leading to a heated argument.
West Jakarta Sub-regional Metro Police Chief, Senior Superintendent Nasriadi, stated that police received a report of the incident through the 110 hotline service. Following up on the report, officers immediately went to the location to take action.
"After arriving at the crime scene, the team arrested five men suspected of being debt collectors. They deliberately threatened and stole the victim's motorcycle," Nasriadi said in Jakarta on Tuesday (10/20/2026).
Nasriadi revealed that the five men have been named suspects. Investigators will further investigate their respective roles in the case.
"Investigators will further investigate each individual's role in the alleged crime," said Nasriadi.
During the operation, police also confiscated five motorcycles. One belonged to Eko, while the other four were allegedly used by the debt collectors.
For their alleged actions, the suspects are being charged under Article 17 in conjunction with Article 479 of the Criminal Code and/or Article 448 of the Criminal Code, which relates to attempted theft with violence and/or coercion by threat or violence.
Eko previously recounted that the incident occurred as he was leaving for work on Tuesday morning. He claimed to have been suddenly pulled over by six people, nearly falling off his motorcycle.
Eko admitted to refusing the men's attempt to inspect his vehicle. He said one of them even hit his motorcycle when he tried to turn around to ask his family for help.
The tension escalated when the men insisted on inspecting his motorcycle. Eko claimed they pulled each other by the collar after he questioned their authority.
Feeling threatened, Eko then went home to retrieve his motorcycle's vehicle registration certificate (BPKB) and asked his uncle for help. He eventually reported the incident through the police emergency service 110.
The police then followed up on the report, resulting in the arrest of five individuals suspected of involvement. Investigators are now investigating the roles of each suspect to determine the alleged criminal offenses involved in the incident.
