Inp.polri.go.id - Palangkaraya. The Central Kalimantan Regional Police will utilize thousands of borewells across five priority regions to strengthen forest and land fire suppression efforts.
Central Kalimantan Police Chief Inspector General Iwan Kurniawan announced in Palangkaraya on Sunday (23/8/2026) that the drilling equipment was provided directly by President Prabowo Subianto to ensure reliable water sources during dry conditions.
"We are prioritizing fire suppression in East Kotawaringin, West Kotawaringin, Palangkaraya, Pulang Pisau, and Kapuas," he said. "The borewell equipment will be distributed across these areas."
Field testing in Pulang Pisau demonstrated that drilling to a depth of 10 meters yields functional water flows. Water is then distributed via relay systems using flexible tanks to support firefighters when local canals and retention ponds dry up.
Central Kalimantan Police continue joint patrols and community outreach alongside local administration agencies to prevent further blazes across the province.
