Inp.polri.go.id - Palangkaraya. The Central Kalimantan Regional Police deployed a cassava-based fire suppression powder named "Hertindo AF31" to combat deep underground peatland fires in Palangka Raya on Friday (4/9/2026).

Provided by the Indonesian National Police (INP) Mobile Brigade Corps, the powder is mixed with water at a ratio of 25 kilograms per 100 liters and injected directly into underground embers alongside thermal drone mapping to locate subsurface hotspots.

"Peatland fires often leave embers beneath the surface that create thick smoke and reignite when exposed to wind," Central Kalimantan Police Chief Inspector General Iwan Kurniawan said in Palangka Raya. "Field testing proves this powder extinguishes underground embers faster and more effectively."

He confirmed that the specialized suppression agent has been distributed across high-risk sectors in Central Kalimantan to maximize water efficiency during dry season containment operations.
