Inp.polri.go.id - Yahukimo. The Peace Cartenz Task Force, Yahukimo Sub-regional Police and Mobile Brigade (Brimob) officers are investigating a fatal assault that claimed the life of a police officer in Dekai District, Yahukimo Regency, Highlands Papua, on Monday night.

Head of Damai Cartenz Task Force Inspector General Faizal Ramadhani expressed deep condolences over the loss, pledging a thorough and transparent investigation. 

"The deceased's service reflects utmost dedication to national security. We will handle this case professionally, measuredly, and in accordance with the law," he said.

The victim, identified as Brigadier Fredi Lukas Awes from the Damai Cartenz Enforcement Unit, was found dead at approximately 11.30 pm local time in the Halabok Paradiso area behind Jalan Pertanian. 

Medical reports indicated multiple sharp force injuries inflicted by unidentified assailants. His body was evacuated to Dekai Regional Hospital for examination before being flown to Jayapura for burial preparations.

Deputy Head of Public Relations for the Damai Cartenz Task Force,Superintendent Andri Alam said that joint forces immediately secured the crime scene, gathered evidence, and interviewed witnesses. 

Authorities urged local residents to remain calm, avoid unverified rumors, and report any information that could assist in identifying the perpetrators.
