The 2026 Damai Cartenz Operation Task Force, along with the Yahukimo Sub-regional Police, responded quickly to a shooting incident allegedly carried out by the armed criminal group (KKB) Kodap XVI Yahukimo against a civilian in Dekai District, Yahukimo Regency, Papua Mountains, on Monday (April 27, 2026).
The victim, identified as RK (29), is currently undergoing intensive care after being referred to a referral health facility in Jayapura.
The incident occurred while the victim was traveling in the Dekai District area. The task force, along with the Yahukimo Sub-regional Police, then evacuated the victim and secured the location to prevent further disturbances and ensure public safety.
The victim, RK, a professional in the local government, suffered serious injuries and has received medical treatment. Initial examinations revealed a single gunshot wound to the left side of the neck, along with eight other wounds suspected to be from projectile fragments. His family has also received assistance.
"Initial examination results indicate the victim suffered a single gunshot wound to the left side of the neck and several wounds from shrapnel. He has been referred to a hospital in Jayapura for further treatment," said Superintendent Andria, Vice Head of the Public Relations Task Force for the 2026 Damai Cartenz Operation.
Following up on the incident, he said, joint officers immediately took swift action, securing the area, processing the crime scene, questioning witnesses, and conducting an intensive investigation to identify the perpetrator.
"An intensive investigation is currently underway, along with more strict patrols and security measures at several vulnerable points," explained Andria.
The Head of the 2026 Damai Cartenz Operation, Inspector General Faizal Ramadhani, emphasized that acts of violence against civilians constitute a serious violation of the law. According to him, the task force continues to boost patrols and security in vulnerable areas to ensure security stability.
"Any acts of violence against civilians will be dealt with firmly in accordance with applicable law. We ensure that the law enforcement process is professional, measured, and fair," he explained.
