inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Vice Minister of Digital Communications, Nezar Patria, urged various parties to incorporate an ethical perspective into the development and utilization of artificial intelligence (AI) technology.
He stated that incidents of misuse of AI after editing other people's photos are likely to occur when AI technology is used without ethical guidelines.
"Therefore, we urge that the use and development of AI also incorporate an ethical perspective. So, ethical use," said the Deputy Minister of Digital Communications on Friday (April 17, 2026).
He stated that the government is currently drafting an AI document to complement the national AI roadmap, which is expected to become a Presidential Regulation and be enacted soon.
"So, we hope that the development of AI will consider the ethical side, what we call ethics by design," said the Deputy Minister of Digital Communications.
This means that when it is designed, ethical elements in AI are taken into consideration, including whether it is appropriate or permissible to produce content that could be controversial.
"For example, it contains religious sentiments, sentiments containing pornographic elements. Because we see how easy the application is to use, and then using generative AI to create images containing pornographic elements," explained the Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs.
