inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Jakarta Regional Metro Police Chief, Commissioner General Dadang Hartanto, emphasized that handling drug-prone areas is not sufficient through legal action alone.
Public education, strengthening social resilience, and environmental management are also necessary to prevent the recurrence of drug trafficking.
Dadang made this statement while answering reporters' questions at a press conference at the Jakarta Regional Metro Police Headquarters on Wednesday (10/21/2026).
He stated that action against drug trafficking networks must be accompanied by preventative measures involving various parties to ensure sustainable results.
"The police cannot work alone," he said.
Dadang explained that cooperation between the police, local governments, and the community is necessary to create a safer environment and reduce the potential for drug trafficking to recur.
In addition to law enforcement, prevention efforts also need to start within the family environment. Education, mentoring the younger generation, and community awareness are considered crucial to increasing understanding of the dangers of drug abuse.
He believes that community involvement is a crucial factor in preventing the environment from being used again as a place for drug trafficking.
Meanwhile, the Head of Public Relations for the Jakarta Regional Metropolitan Police, Senior Superintendent Budi Hermanto, urged the public to raise awareness of the threat of drugs in their respective communities.
He emphasized that prevention requires active community participation and cross-sector coordination, ensuring that drug handling focuses not only on enforcement but also addresses social and environmental factors.
Through the "Police Together with the Community" initiative, the Jakarta Regional Metropolitan Police encourages all elements of society to play an active role in protecting the environment from the threat of drug trafficking.
