inp.polri.go.id - Central Java. The Central Java Regional Police are strengthening forest and land fire prevention and control measures throughout Indonesia.
This strengthening is being done as a precautionary measure against the increased potential for fires during the dry season, including in Central Java.
This step is outlined in the National Police Chief's Telegram Letter No. ST/1895/VIII/OPS.1.2./2026 dated August 31, 2026, addressed to all Regional Police Chiefs.
The telegram asks police to strengthen prevention, preparedness, cross-sector coordination, community involvement, and law enforcement against forest and land fire-related violations.
In Central Java, the issue of forest and land fires has become a concern because the fires have spread to various regions.
In a statement at the Central Java Regional Police Headquarters, the Head of Public Relations of the Central Java Regional Police, Senior Superintendent Yuliyanto, stated that this situation has drawn the attention of the Central Java Regional Police and requires them to strengthen prevention efforts from the earliest stages.
"In Central Java, the characteristics of the regions and the potential sources of fires are quite diverse. There are agricultural areas, plantations, open land, scrubland, and forest areas. Therefore, the prevention approach cannot simply wait for a fire to break out. Early detection and community involvement are crucial," said Yulitanto, Wednesday (9/2/2026).
According to him, the Central Java Regional Police have directed their ranks to improve mapping of areas with the potential for forest and land fires and to strengthen patrols, especially in locations evaluated as having a history of fires.
The role of the Community Police (Bhabinkamtibmas) is also being optimized to educate the public, particularly farmers, land managers, and communities surrounding forest and plantation areas, to refrain from clearing or clearing land by burning.
"We ask the public not to use fires to clear land. In hot and dry conditions, small fires can quickly grow and become difficult to control. We must not allow activities initially considered normal to cause greater losses, even endangering lives," he added.
The Central Java Regional Police are also strengthening coordination with the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), fire departments, local governments, Perhutani (Perhutani), the Indonesian National Military (TNI), village governments, community groups, and plantation and forest area managers. This coordination is aimed at ensuring prompt receipt and action on fire information.
