Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. East Java Regional Police have announced preliminary findings on the human skeletons discovered at the Wonorejo 1 Water Pump House, Kedung Baruk, Rungkut, Surabaya.

Forensic officers identified 21 bone fragments, including seven thigh bones, two left clavicles, a skull, a right skull segment, a lower jaw with six teeth, a pelvic bone, and six pairs of forearm bones.

"The bones are mostly fragile and have been decaying for a long time," said East Java Police Head of Medical Division, Senior Superintendent M. Khusnan, on Monday (30/9/2024).

DNA testing is ongoing to confirm the identity of the remains, according to antaranews.com..

The skeletons are believed to be from graves along the riverbank that may have been displaced. Forensic expert Dr. Marifatul Ula estimates the bones are over 20 years old and belong to at least three individuals.

The police have set up a hotline at 0878-5512-7288 for anyone with missing family members to assist with the investigation. The remains were initially found by a water gatekeeper cleaning the area last Wednesday.
