Inp.polri.go.id - Surabaya. The East Java Regional Police escalated operational readiness to counter forest and land fire risks during the peak dry season, prioritizing seven major mountain ranges across the province. The key monitoring areas encompass Mount Bromo, Semeru, Raung, Ijen, Argopuro, Butak, and Lemongan.
Following Police Telegram Letter ST/1895/VIII/OPS.1.2./2026, joint officers established firebreaks, intensified scheduled land patrols, and mapped high-risk zones.
"Intensive mitigation measures focus on strategic mountain areas with high vulnerability indicators during the peak dry season," said East Java Police Head of Public Relations Senior Superintendent Jules Abraham Abast on Tuesday (15/9/2026).
Police have mobilized local Bhabinkamtibmas community police officers across mountain slopes to conduct community outreach. Authorities warned that individuals engaging in illegal land burning face strict criminal prosecution under Law No. 41/1999 on Forestry and Law No. 32/2009 on Environmental Protection.
