inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Coordinating Minister for Political, Security, and Security Affairs Djamari Chaniago emphasized the need for all regional stakeholders to continuously improve their preparedness for potential forest and land fires.

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) stated that the El Niño phenomenon will begin in the third week of June, necessitating strong coordination between all parties to work harder in prevention efforts.

"Based on calculations and estimates from the BMKG, El Niño will begin to occur from the third week of this month onwards, and this requires greater joint preparedness to prevent forest and land fires," explained Djamari on Thursday (6/18/2026).

Furthermore, the government will implement strict evaluations of the performance of regional officials and leaders in controlling forest and land fires. 

He emphasized that the positions of relevant officials will be at stake if they fail to carry out their duties in preventing and handling fires.

Djamari assessed that recent efforts to control forest and land fires have shown positive progress. He believes these achievements must be maintained and improved through solid cooperation.

"There has been progress from last year to this year, and there is progress that we must maintain and even achieve even greater heights. We have established a sense of unity to do this, and everyone now has a shared understanding. We just need to implement it. Today, we have a joint agreement to handle this," explained Djamari.
