Indonesian Vice President Ma’ruf Amin says the 2024 General Elections could trigger many conflicts in the society, particularly due to overheated competition between candidates supporters and the use of hate comments. In realizing 2024 peace elections, candidates are urged to form an integrity pact to prevent any negative narrations that could trigger conflict. “Candidates has to form an integrity pact to not commit any provocative act, both verbal and non-verbal. Let us prevent any acts that could leads to conflicts,” says Ma’ruf Amin on Friday (10/20/2023). To all presidential and vice-presidential candidates supporter, the Vice President implores not to insult each other. Instead, he welcomes any debates on ideas and innovation of the three candidates by the supporters. “They can promote their favorite candidate, but I urge you not to insult the other candidates. I remind you, this is important, because this could have led to conflicts,” says Ma’ruf Amin. On the other hand, the election organizer, which are General Election Commission (KPU), Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu), Election Organizer Honorary Council (DKPP) to be honest, and stick to their noble principles. “And not to be biased, that is a must,” Ma’ruf adds. Lastly, Ma’ruf Amin emphasized State Civil Apparatus, regional government, and security officials to be neutral during elections. (ad/ndt/pr/nm)
