Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. England U-17 coach Ryan Garry was in awe of the vibrant atmosphere created by the supporters at the Jakarta International Stadium during the ongoing 2023 U-17 World Cup despite a narrow defeat to Brazil, antaranews.com reported.
The Young Lions successfully navigated their way through three Group C matches at the JIS, finishing top of the group ahead of defending champions Brazil and Asian giants Iran.
"Playing three games at this stadium has been impressive. The atmosphere is fantastic and we have really enjoyed playing here," he said after the match against Brazil on Friday (17/11/2023).
Garry, a former Arsenal player, revealed that his team had drawn extra energy from the fantastic support of the Indonesian fans. While his focus was on the upcoming Round of 16 clash, he expressed his excitement at the possibility of playing at the Jakarta Stadium again.
In their last Group C match, England went down 2-1 to Brazil, with goals from Kaua Elias and Da Mata for the Brazilians and a Joel Ndala penalty for the hosts.
Despite the defeat, Ryan Garry was pleased with his side's performance, insisting they were in control of the game for the full 90 minutes, even if they were unable to find the net against Brazil.
Despite the loss to Brazil, England's position remains unchanged at the top of Group C standings with six points. Brazil and Iran, both accumulating six points, follow in the second and third positions, respectively, with England leading in goal productivity.
