Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. A viral Facebook video claiming citizens are being forced to pay off Rp 10,000 trillion in state debt through increased taxation has been confirmed as false.
Fact-checking revealed that the video was taken out of context from a YouTube channel video titled "LAST WARNING! Tsunami Ekonomi & Mega Financial Crisis Indonesia," uploaded on 14 April 2026. The original source contained no statement claiming the government would hike taxes to settle national debt obligations.
Furthermore, official records from Bank Indonesia show that Indonesia's external debt stood at Rp 8,038.3 trillion as of May 2026, contradicting the figure cited in the viral post.
The public is advised to verify economic and financial updates through official government sources before sharing unverified content on social media.
