Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. A viral TikTok video claiming that President Prabowo Subianto cried after witnessing a student demonstration at the Hotel Indonesia (HI) Roundabout in Jakarta on 18 August, 2026, is false.

Official verification by Kompas.com on Tuesday (1/9/2026) confirmed that no credible news reports support the claim that President Prabowo wept due to the demonstration.

Fact-checkers identified the video footage as identical to a video uploaded by the Viva YouTube channel on 16 December 2023, when Prabowo Subianto was running as a presidential candidate. 

The original footage depicts Prabowo delivering a speech during the National Gathering of the Mekar Digital Sejahtera (MDS) Cooperative at PT Asri Pelangi Nusa in Purwakarta Regency, West Java.
