Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa announced Thursday (19/3/2026) that the Ministry of Finance will directly dictate percentage-based budget cuts for all government institutions to enforce fiscal efficiency following the failure of individual ministries to voluntarily reduce spending amid rising global economic uncertainty and Middle East geopolitical tensions.
"I previously asked ministries to cut their own budgets, but instead of cutting, they increased them. Now, I will determine the percentage, and they must adjust accordingly," he said, as cited by antaranews.com.
Minister Purbaya said that fiscal "combing" means targeting non-essential operational costs, slow-moving programs, and internal meetings that lack a clear impact on national economic growth. In a move toward state solidarity, the Minister also voiced strong support for a proposed salary cut for ministers and deputy ministers.
To further reduce routine overhead, the government is currently evaluating a Work From Anywhere (WFA) scheme for civil servants, a strategy designed to slash daily operational expenses while maintaining public service standards during the 2026 fiscal crisis.
