Five SOMTC Agreements in Combating Transnational Crime

Inp.polri.go.id – Yogyakarta. Head of Criminal Investigation Board (Kabareskrim), Police Commissioner General Agus Andrianto attended the 23rd Senior Officials Meeting on Transnational Crimes (SOMTC) in Yogyakarta. During the meeting, five important matters were agreed upon regarding the eradication of the crime of trafficking in persons (TPPO) and other cross-border crimes.

Police Commissioner General Agus Andrianto said the first agreement regarding the draft guidelines on the implementation of the SOMTC work program is an attachment to the SOMTC framework of reference. Then, it was agreed that the draft criteria and guiding modalities were updated by involving external parties for AMMTC as an attachment to the SOMTC framework of reference.

Another agreement regarding the draft concept note regarding the renewal of Annex I of the ASEAN charter regarding the SOMTC nomenclature is to be read as the ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on transnational crime. Furthermore, the guidelines for the implementation of observer status were agreed upon to be given to Timor Leste at the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime (AMMTC) and related matters.

"It was also agreed that ASEAN will receive three additional work plans on cooperation to fight transnational crimes," said Police Commissioner General Agus Andrianto in a written statement, Friday (23/6/23).

It is known, this meeting was attended by around 200 participants from law enforcement as SOMTC representatives of all ASEAN member countries, namely Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and Timor Leste as Observers. In addition, there are Dialogue Partners from China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Australia, New Zealand, India, the USA, Canada, and the European Union.

"In general, the 23rd SOMTC meeting went smoothly, and succeeded in finalizing preparations for the 17th AMMTC meeting which will be a follow-up to Indonesia's chairmanship of ASEAN in 2023," said Police Commissioner General Agus Andrianto.
