Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Juwono Sudarsono, the nation’s first civilian Minister of Defense in the post-Suharto era, passed away on at 1.45 pm on Saturday =(28/3/2026)  in Jakarta.

Brigadier General Rico Ricardo Sirait, the Head of the Information Bureau at the Ministry of Defense, confirmed his death in a written statement reported by antaranews.com.

Jowono, who was the emeritus professor of International Relations at the University of Indonesia, passed away at Pondok Indah Hospital, Jakarta 

He was a towering figure in Indonesian governance, having served under four different presidents. He held the position of Minister of State for the Environment under President Suharto, Minister of Education and Culture under President B.J. Habibie, and Minister of Defense during the administrations of both President Abdurrahman Wahid and President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. 

Known for his intellectual depth and commitment to military reform, his leadership spanned the country's most critical transition periods. A state funeral is scheduled for Sunday at the Kalibata Heroes Cemetery in South Jakarta, where he will be laid to rest with full military honors.
