Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Gegana Bomb Disposal Unit of the Jakarta Metro Jaya Regional Police confirmed that two explosive-like objects discovered in Cempaka Putih, Central Jakarta, were spent smoke grenades posing no danger to the public.
A local scavenger initially discovered the objects in an abandoned vacant lot on Wednesday afternoon (16/9/2026).
Central Jakarta Metropolitan Sub-regional Police Head of Criminal Investigation Superintendent Sang Ngurah Wiratama said that Gegana technicians immediately sterilized the site, conducted diagnostics, and safely retrieved the items.
"Based on the assessment by the Metro Jaya Police Gegana Detachment, it was concluded that the secured items are smoke grenades. The smoke grenades are already spent and in an inactive state," he confirmed .
Officers interviewed the discoverer at the Cempaka Putih Police Station to trace the origin of the items and determine whether they were discarded or previously used on-site. Following complete site clearance, authorities reassured residents that the location is secure and normal public activities have resumed.
