Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The government is evaluating parole eligibility for former Jamaah Islamiyah (JI) members, including ex-leaders Abu Rusydan and Para Wijayanto, who are currently serving prison sentences.

Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, and Corrections Prof. Yusril Ihza Mahendra confirmed that authorities are compiling data on JI members, including those under investigation and those convicted.

“No decision has been made regarding their status, including Abu Rusydan and Para Wijayanto,” he said on Tuesday (24/12/2024).

Abu Rusydan, JI’s interim leader after Abu Bakar Ba’asyir’s arrest, is serving a six-year sentence and has completed half of it. Para Wijayanto, JI’s Amir until his 2019 arrest, is serving a seven-year sentence since 2020 and has also served more than half his term.

Parole requires completing two-thirds of a sentence and good behavior, criteria currently under review. Minister Yusril also suggested JI members with finalized convictions apply for clemency individually.

The review followed JI’s formal disbandment on 21 December 2024, in Surakarta, where former members pledged loyalty to Indonesia and renounced extremist ideologies.
