inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman ensured that the government is maintaining national food production through anticipatory measures to address potential drought caused by El Niño and global geopolitical dynamics that could impact the food sector.

"The government continues to intensively monitor the condition of national food production and stocks to ensure that public needs are met," said Andi on Monday (3/9/2026).

He admitted that to maintain productivity amidst the current situation, his ministry is strengthening internal monitoring and coordination. He even held a meeting on Sunday (3/8/2026).

However, Andi stated that based on the latest data as of early March 2026, the national food supply, particularly rice, is secure. National rice production is recorded at between 2.6 and 5.7 million tons per month, higher than the average national consumption of around 2.59 million tons per month.

The total national rice supply currently stands at 27.99 million tons, consisting of 3.76 million tons of Bulog stocks, approximately 12.50 million tons of public stocks, and 11.73 million tons of standing crops, or ready-to-harvest rice.

"Looking at today's data, our food supply is very secure. The total national rice stock is sufficient for the next 324 days, or approximately 10.8 months, so the public needs not worry," said Andi

He also stated that the government has prepared various anticipatory measures to address potential drought. One of these is a pumping program that covered 1.2 million hectares of land last year and will be expanded by another 1 million hectares this year.

Furthermore, Andi stated that the government is also preparing additional pumped irrigation for 1 million hectares of land to ensure water availability for rice crops during the dry season.

With this irrigation enhancement, the government is optimistic that national food production will remain stable, ensuring food stocks are considered secure despite the potential for El Niño and global geopolitical dynamics.
