Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesian shuttler Gregoria Mariska Tunjung has secured a spot in the semifinals of the Paris 2024 Olympics by defeating Thailand's Ratchanok Intanon in the quarterfinals.

In the match held at the Porte de La Chapelle Arena in Paris on Saturday (3/8/2024), she won in straight games 25-23, 21-9 in 46 minutes. 

The first game was intensely competitive, with Ratchanok initially leading 5-3 before Gregoria rallied to take a 7-3 lead. The score remained tight, and despite Ratchanok briefly taking the lead, Gregoria edged ahead at the interval 11-10, according to antaranews.com.

The two players were evenly matched until Gregoria seized the game point at 24-23, after Ratchanok’s shot hit the net. Despite Ratchanok’s attempt to recover, Gregoria clinched the first game 25-23.

In the second game, Gregoria overcame a slow start to lead 11-6 at the interval. She continued her dominant performance, winning the game 21-9.

This victory marked her second consecutive win over Ratchanok, following their previous encounter in the Thomas & Uber Cup 2024. In the semifinals, Gregoria will face world number one An Se-young of South Korea, who defeated Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi 15-21, 21-17, 21-8 in the quarterfinals.
