Hoax Claims Singapore Behind Rupiah Weakening
Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. A viral TikTok post claiming that Singapore orchestrated the weakening of the Indonesian Rupiah is false, as no credible sources support the allegation.
"The withdrawal of investor funds on a large scale, commonly called capital outflow, is very likely to weaken the rupiah. However, this occurs due to highly objective and rational factors," explained Anthony Budiawan, an economic and investment observer from Political Economy and Policy Studies (PEPS) on Thursday (18/6/2026).
He clarified that while Singaporean investors frequently purchase Indonesian government bonds, large-scale capital flight is driven by rational market factors rather than foreign manipulation.
For instance, recent global economic volatility and geopolitical conflicts in the Middle East have broadly pressured emerging market currencies, including the Rupiah. Consequently, the public is urged to remain vigilant against misleading financial disinformation circulating on social media.
