inp.polri.go.id - Magelang. The Magelang City Sub-regional Police have uncovered a case of alleged possession of illegal explosives, arresting a young man with the initials FB (18), a resident of Bantul, after he was allegedly offering firecracker materials via social media.

The Head of the Magelang City Sub-regional Police Criminal Investigation Unit, Police Senior Inspector Iwan Kristiana stated that the discovery began with a cyber patrol conducted by the Criminal Investigation Unit. Officers discovered an account offering firecracker materials online.

To verify the information, the team then posed as a potential buyer and communicated with the perpetrator.

After an agreement was reached, a meeting was arranged for cash on delivery (COD) in Central Magelang. As the transaction was about to take place, officers on standby immediately secured the suspect.

"The distribution of explosives without a permit is very dangerous and cannot be tolerated. This has the potential to pose a real threat to public safety," he said.

According to him, the seized evidence included 89 grams of firecrackers and hundreds of grams of mixed chemicals suspected of being ready to be mixed into firecrackers.

In addition, police also confiscated the vehicle used by the perpetrator and a storage bag as evidence.

He stated that the distribution of illegal explosives carries significant potential danger, especially during certain times when firecrackers are often used. Besides the risk of causing serious injuries, the use of homemade explosives can also damage public facilities.

Investigators are applying Article 306 of Law Number 1/2023 concerning the Criminal Code for his actions, which carries a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison. This article strictly prohibits anyone from possessing or carrying explosives without official permission.

He urged the public not to be tempted to purchase illegal explosives for any reason. Any information regarding the suspected distribution of hazardous materials should be reported immediately to the authorities.
