inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono emphasized the importance of applying international law and the principles of multilateralism fairly and consistently in resolving the Palestinian conflict, particularly the situation in Gaza.

"Indonesia views the situation in Palestine, particularly in Gaza, as a clear reflection of the international community's failure to uphold these principles fairly and consistently," Sugiono stated on Wednesday (5/27/2026).

In the forum, Indonesia reiterated its support for the two-state solution based on international law and UN resolutions as the only path to a just and sustainable peace for Palestine.

The Minister also highlighted the increasing number of attacks on UN peacekeepers, which he considered a threat to the principles of multilateralism. He emphasized the need for protection of peacekeepers and respect for international law, including the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), to ensure that the world's strategic shipping lanes do not become arenas of conflict.

In addition to the Palestinian issue, the Minister also touched on new global security threats, including the development of artificial intelligence (AI) and autonomous weapons, which are considered to be changing the nature of modern conflict.

Indonesia also reiterated its push for reform of the United Nations Security Council to make it more representative, transparent, and able to reflect the voices of developing countries.

"The world does not need a new hierarchy, but rather a renewed commitment to return to the principles of the UN Charter and strengthen multilateralism that serves all countries equally," said Sugiono.
