Inp.polri.go.id - Yogyakarta. The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs is drafting new regulations to combat the misuse of deepfake content generated by artificial intelligence.

“We’re working on stricter rules to monitor the use of this technology,” said Teguh Arifiyadi, the Director of Electronic Certification and Transaction Supervision at the Ministry, on Tuesday (17/6/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.

He said that the ministry is weighing two approaches: a specific framework for each type of AI technology or a broader, comprehensive regulation to cover evolving threats. He emphasized the urgency of regulation as AI-generated media becomes increasingly realistic and potentially harmful.

“Imagine a fake video call from the president to a minister—deepfake tech makes that possible. It could destabilize the state,” Teguh warned.

In February, police arrested a man for posting a deepfake video of President Prabowo and Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani.

Beyond regulation, Teguh stressed the importance of ethical standards, digital identity verification, and public digital literacy to safeguard against future AI manipulation.
