Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra met with Dutch Ambassador Marc Gerritsen to discuss legal cooperation, including the potential repatriation of Dutch citizens serving sentences in Indonesia.

“There are currently five Dutch prisoners in Indonesia, along with two detainees held in immigration detention,” he said on Monday (3/3/2025).

Minister Yusril said that Indonesia remains open to international legal cooperation but prioritizes justice and national interests. The transfer of foreign prisoners requires careful assessment and is subject to presidential discretion.

Indonesia has previously repatriated prisoners, including members of Bali Nine to Australia and individuals to the Philippines and France. A draft law on prisoner transfer mechanisms is in progress and expected before Eid al-Fitr.

Dutch Ambassador Gerritsen welcomed Indonesia’s approach, emphasizing the importance of a clear and fair legal framework.
