Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian National Police  (INP) intensified law enforcement against forest and land fires, naming 138 individual suspects from 200 police reports as of Monday (7/9/2026).

Speaking at a press conference in Jakarta, INP Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo detailed that 119 individuals face charges for intentional land burning, while 19 others were cited for negligence.

"We have received 200 police reports and established 138 suspects involving both intentional acts and negligence," he said, adding that suspect counts may rise as field investigations proceed.

Chief Sigit highlighted that legal actions extend to corporate entities, with eight companies currently under active investigation.

The INP is coordinating with the Ministry of Forestry and the Ministry of Environment to evaluate potential criminal charges against firms already facing administrative sanctions, enforcing layered statutory penalties to deter illegal land clearing during the ongoing El Nino cycle.
