inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian National Police (INP) Criminal Investigation Unit has uncovered three cases of online gambling crimes that exploited websites and social media platforms using various methods, including comment spam to direct users to online gambling sites.
The Head of the Public Information Division of the INP's Public Relations Division, Senior Superintendent Erdi A. Chaniago, stated that the disclosure of these three cases demonstrates the police's commitment to continuously cracking down on online gambling networks and disrupting the various means used by the perpetrators.
"Today's press conference demonstrates our commitment to uncovering and prosecuting online gambling crimes. We will continue to take simultaneous action, including against networks that utilize digital technology to conduct gambling activities," Erdi stated at a press conference in Jakarta on Thursday (9/3/2026).
The case disclosure involved the use of several online gambling websites and comment spam on social media platforms, targeting accounts with high engagement and follower counts.
Furthermore, the Director of Cyber Crime at INP Criminal Investigation Agency, Brigadier General Adex Yudiswan, stated that eradicating online gambling faces increasingly complex challenges due to the rapid development of digital infrastructure and the perpetrators' modus operandi.
Adex explained that when access to one domain is cut off, perpetrators can quickly switch to another, create mirror sites, or change their promotional strategies through social media. To disguise the flow of funds, perpetrators also use nominee accounts, e-wallets, layering, and even crypto assets.
Based on the disclosures, the Cyber Crime Directorate has named several suspects in the three cases. Investigators have also listed several individuals on the wanted list (DPO) for their alleged role in the online gambling network.
Adex emphasized that the borderless nature of online gambling requires synergy across ministries, institutions, and countries.
"The cyber world, especially online gambling, is borderless. The marketing team can be in one country, the website manager in another, and the infrastructure in yet another country. This is our challenge, requiring collaboration between countries, ministries and institutions, and law enforcement agencies," he said.
INP ensured that handling online gambling would continue through law enforcement, access cuts, tracing and interrupting the flow of funds, and educating the public about the dangers of online gambling.
