Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  Indonesian National Police (INP) Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has warned the public to be vigilant about love scamming, a form of cybercrime where perpetrators pose as potential romantic partners to deceive victims.

"This type of cybercrime often starts with curiosity but can quickly become addictive," he said during a speech at the Risk-Based Mentoring Program event on Thursday (8/5/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.

Chief Sigit emphasized that love scamming victims come from all walks of life, with no age restrictions regardless of their social or professional status. . He further explained that these crimes often occur in private online spaces, where the victims are lured and then become addicted to the fraudulent interactions.

In January 2024, the police uncovered an international love scamming network operating in Indonesia, with 19 Indonesian suspects arrested. Of the victims, one was Indonesian, while the other 367 were foreigners.
