Inp.polri.go.id - Wamena. The Jayawijaya Sub-regional Police confirmed on Wednesday (11/6/2025) that the security remains under control following a shootout that killed a member of an armed criminal group (KKB) in Wamena, Papua Mountains
“Generally, the situation is manageable. Potential threats do exist, but it’s our duty to detect and respond to them proactively,” said Jayawijaya Police Chief Superintendent Anak Agung Made Satriya Bimantara, as quoted by antaranews.com
He acknowledged recent incidents involving gunfire exchanges between the Indonesian Military (TNI) task forces and armed groups, including attacks on police officers.
“These incidents reflect our joint TNI-Police efforts to maintain public safety and restore normalcy,” Chief Satrya added.
The police urged residents to remain calm and not to believe unverified information. He emphasized the importance of verifying information before sharing it, as hoaxes are often used by certain actors to incite unrest in Jayawijaya.
