Inp.polri.go.id – Jakarta. Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) has logged 37 child suicide reports from January to November. The average children committing suicide are those who are aged 10 – 15. “Children who committed suicide has become the third highest cause of death with first being traffic accident, followed by violence abuse,” says KPAI Chairperson, Ai Maryati Solihah on Wednesday (11/29/2023). Moreover, Maryati states that her party along with their strategic partners have coordinated in handling child suicides. She admits that she was concerned with the phenomenon and committed to overcome the case to its roots. “There are cultural shifting in the society since last year where our children had to learn from distance. And now, we have returned to how it was where we tried to get them used to interact with other people in the social environment," explained KPAI Chair Maryati. Moreover, Maryati urge central and regional government to routinely prevent and intensively socialize the dangers of suicide. In handling suicide case, children need to be accompanied mentally by family and their closed ones. “Our challenges is to ensure their good mental health. We have to find the root problem and build a strong foundation on how to protect our children,” conclude Maryati. (ad/ndt/pr/nm)
