Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The General Elections Commission (KPU) has responded to Migrant Care's report, acknowledging the discovery of 198 duplicated entries of Indonesian citizens  in New York for the 2024 elections. KPU Chairman Hasyim Asy'ari clarified that the duplicate voter data stemmed from variations in name spellings, such as Ratna Sari and Ratnasari or Dewi and Dewy, despite individuals having the same identification card. "This is what led us to discover these 198 duplicate names. So, if there's the same identity, we eliminate one," he said on Monday (5/2/2024). In the voter data compilation and updating process, Chairman Hasyim noted that the KPU employed three analytical models to identify duplicate data, including checking in relevant locations, cross-referencing voter identities in New York with WNI globally, and verifying voter identities both internationally and domestically. Concerning the 198 duplicate ballots, he explained that the Overseas Election Committee (PPLN) in New York opted not to send these ballots to Indonesian citizens. "These ballots can assist relocated voters, including those moving from another country or state to New York, voters managed by other PPLNs entering New York, or voters traveling from within the country to New York," he said. Based on data from PPLN New York, the count of Indonesian citizens  enlisted in the Overseas Permanent Voters List (DPT) for the 2024 elections totals 11,141 individuals. (ar/ndt/pr/nm)
