Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Kulon Progo Resort Police held a Forest and Land Fire (Karhutla) Readiness Rally at the Kulon Progo Police Headquarters on Tuesday (11/8/2026) to anticipate rising fire risks during the dry season driven by the El Nino phenomenon.
"We are facing El Nino, which could extend until 2027 and bring various impacts. Through synergy and communication among all sectors, we hope to anticipate all potential risks together," said Kulon Progo Police Chief Superintendent Ridho Hidayat.
The rally was attended by Kulon Progo Deputy Regent Ambar Purwoko and Kulon Progo Military District Commander Lieutenant Colonel Dyan Niti Sukma, along with local officials, disaster management agencies, and volunteers.
Authorities emphasized joint patrols and early detection, particularly across high-risk dry areas and the Menoreh hills. Chief Ridho urged the public to refrain from land clearing using fire or open burning and warned that strict legal enforcement will be applied against anyone causing fires through intent or severe negligence.
