Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. A powerful magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck the waters off Pulau Doi in North Maluku on Friday morning (3/7/2026), according to the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).
The agency recorded the tectonic event at 09:31 AM WIB. The earthquake's epicenter was located at coordinates 1.93° N and 127.39° E, approximately 58 kilometers southwest of Doi Island. The tremor originated at an intermediate depth of 100 kilometers beneath the seabed.
BMKG confirmed via its official X account that the earthquake does not have any tsunami-generating potential.
"This information prioritizes speed, so the data processing is not yet stable and may change as more data becomes available," BMKG said in a disclaimer regarding its early automated report. No immediate damages or casualties have been reported.
