Inp.polri.go.id - Makassar. The Makassar Sub-regional Police tightened monitoring across outer islands and seaport transit hubs to block drug trafficking networks from entering South Sulawesi following a major raid in Tallo District.
Makassar Police Head of Investigation Senior Superintendent Arya Perdana announced on Sunday (11/10/2026)) that the initiative follows a raid on Saturday in Borta, Suangga Village, Tallo District, where officers detained 104 people. Urine testing confirmed 98 of them tested positive for narcotics, including three suspected drug kingpins identified by their initials P, A, and W.
Chief Arya said that South Sulawesi Regional Police Chief consulted with Makassar Mayor Munafri Arifuddin to establish joint interdiction measures covering outer island border zones and maritime ports. Investigations reveal that regional drug syndicates frequently import methamphetamine from international networks originating in Malaysia, routing shipments through Kalimantan into South Sulawesi.
Police investigators are also probing intelligence reports suggesting that local inter-group brawls were intentionally staged as diversionary tactics to move illicit drug shipments across city districts.
South Sulawesi Police Director of Narcotics Senior Superintendent Sugeng Sudarso said that the coordinated crackdown aligns with presidential and Indonesian National Police (INP) directives to eliminate drug networks across the region. Concurrently, regional officers conducted joint sweeps in North Toraja and Tana Toraja, securing 57 additional suspects at night entertainment venues and suspected drug dens, as reported by antaranews.com.
Under the "Police with the Community" public safety initiative, authorities urged residents to report suspicious activities along coastal waterways and neighborhood districts to assist law enforcement
