inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Manpower Yassierli stated that strengthening the national Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) ecosystem is a crucial effort to improve worker protection.
"The challenges of modern industry demand a transformation in K3 management that is no longer merely administrative, but rather addresses the essence of protecting workers' lives," Yassierli said in a statement in Jakarta on Wednesday (8/5/2026).
He considered strengthening the OSH ecosystem crucial because of the ongoing challenges in protecting workers.
According to BPJS Ketenagakerjaan data, throughout 2025, there were 319,224 workplace accident claims, 158 occupational disease claims, 9,834 deaths, and 4,133 cases of functional or total disability.
In addition to the high number of workplace accidents, strengthening the OSH system is also necessary because the ratio of labor inspectors to companies currently stands at around 1 in 3,800. Of the 1,366 active inspectors, only 268 are OSH specialists.
Furthermore, the supervision method is still dominated by conventional approaches and is not fully risk-based or supported by the use of digital technology.
Furthermore, Yassierli also highlighted the suboptimal national OSH data system.
He stated that workplace accident data is still scattered across various systems, resulting in the lack of a single national database to inform policy development. Furthermore, he noted that the recording of occupational diseases in Indonesia remains low.
"The low number of occupational diseases in Indonesia is not due to a small number of cases, but rather to a recording system that is not yet optimal in detecting them," said Yassierli.
To address these challenges, he stated that his ministry is currently working to strengthen the role of the Occupational Health and Safety Center as an intervention point through four main steps.
These steps include strengthening data-based industrial risk mapping and expanding education on the implementation of the Occupational Health and Safety Management System to workers and companies.
Furthermore, improve supervision and technical standards for K3 testing, and strengthen collaboration with local governments, K3 service companies, industrial areas, and universities.
