Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs clarified Monday (6/4/2026) that Indonesia Game Rating System (IGRS) labels currently appearing on the Steam platform are unverified self-declarations rather than official government classifications.
"The ratings circulating on the platform are not official IGRS results, potentially misleading the public regarding age-appropriate content for children," said Director of Digital Ecosystem Development Sonny Hendra Sudaryana, as cited by antaranews.com.
The Ministry noted that these unauthorized labels violate local regulations, including the 2024 Revision of the Electronics and Information Technology (ITE) Law and ministerial decrees on game classification. Officials confirmed they will summon Steam representatives to ensure all displayed information aligns with national standards to protect young users from inaccurate maturity ratings.
Under Indonesian law, digital platforms are obligated to provide clear and accurate information. The Ministry warned that failure to comply with official verification processes could result in administrative sanctions, urging parents to verify game ratings directly through the official igrs.id helpdesk or ministry channels.
