inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) stated that the current national security situation is at a controlled alert level in the risk management phase.

BNPT Head, Eddy Hartono, stated that the threat of terrorism remains real and present, with limited perpetrator capacity and no major escalation, early detection remains high with rapid response, national stability remains undisturbed strategically, and attack patterns remain sporadic, individual, and not systematic.

"The country is in the risk management phase, not the crisis response phase. We discussed this with the Special Detachment (Densus) 88 last year," said Eddy on Tuesday (3/3/2026).

Eddy explained that the risk management phase refers to the systematic implementation of policies and procedures to manage risks related to the threat of terrorism in Indonesia.

Institutionally, BNPT uses risk management to ensure the effectiveness of counterterrorism policies and organizational governance. Therefore, he believes that the current landscape of counterterrorism in Indonesia has undergone a significant transformation.

Furthermore, the Head of BNPT commended the performance of the Indonesian National Police (INP)'s Densus 88 Anti-Terrorism for consistently implementing various preventive measures (pre-emptive strikes) in the field.

Data shows that the effectiveness of law enforcement has successfully thwarted various planned terrorist acts before they could be executed.

"I thank Densus 88 for their hard work in mitigating threats. Based on a review of court decisions over the past two years, it was found that Densus has thwarted approximately 27 attack threats," he said.

Nevertheless, Eddy reminded that future challenges require stronger harmonized instruments to create a responsive system, particularly in addressing the involvement of children in acts of terrorism.

This includes synchronizing regulations, child assessment standards, an integrated core management system, and strengthening personnel capacity.
