Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. State railway company PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Jakarta recorded a significant surge in holiday travel on Saturday, with nearly 50,000 passengers departing from the capital exactly seven days before the projected Eid al-Fitr.
"As of 11.42 am today, our data shows 49,895 passengers have departed from Jakarta stations, while 30,841 travelers arrived in the city," said Franoto Wibowo, the Public Relations Manager for PT KAI Jakarta, during a press briefing at Gambir Station on Saturday (14/3/2026), as quoted by antaranews.com.
To accommodate the peak travel season between 11 March and 1 April 2026, PT KAI is operating 80 train services daily from Gambir Station alone, including 12 additional trips. Popular long-distance routes currently favorites among travelers include the Pandalungan, Argo Semeru, and Batavia trains. While over 698,000 seats have already been booked, which represented a 65 percent occupancy rate, approximately 377,000 tickets remain available across various classes for travelers planning late departures.
Official figures indicate that the highest demand is concentrated between 15 and 20 March 2026, with several dates already nearing full capacity. Passengers are advised to secure their tickets via official digital platforms to avoid missing the remaining limited seating during this high-intensity period.
