Inp.polri.go.id - Malang. The Klojen Police Office Chief, Senior Inspector Syabain Rahmad Kusriyanto, confirmed on Saturday (14/9/2024)  that there was no vendors during the fire at the third floor of Comboran Market, or West Pasar Baru, in Malang, East Java, on Friday night.

"There was no activity because the market had already closed," he said, as quoted by antaranews.com.

The cause of the fire is still unknown as firefighters are continuing efforts to extinguish the flames. Power was cut in the market area to aid the firefighting efforts.

A vendor, Ayet (29), said that the third-floor area is used for selling secondhand clothes, coffee stalls, and storage for items like fruit. Around 50 vendor stalls were affected by the fire.

Firefighters, with support from local agencies, continued tol monitor the area after the fire had been mostly contained.
