Inp.polri.go.id - Medan. The North Sumatra Regional Police intensified night patrols on Saturday (23/5/2026) in areas affected by ongoing power outages to ensure public safety and order.
“Tonight, personnel together with district police are strengthening security through night patrols and traffic monitoring,” said North Sumatra Police Head of Public Relations Senior Superintendent Ferry Walintukan in Medan, as cited by antaranews.com.
He noted that limited lighting increases security risks, requiring enhanced patrols in residential areas, public activity zones, and business districts.
Patrols also included community engagement with residents and neighborhood watch groups.
“We continue to prioritize preventive measures and a humanistic approach so the public feels Polri’s presence in any situation, including during blackouts,” Chief Ferry added.
The outages followed a transmission disruption on the 275 kV Muara Bungo–Sungai Rumbai line due to extreme weather. State electricity company PLN reported that 199 of 540 affected feeders have been restored, with recovery efforts ongoing.
