inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Brigadier General Mohammad Irhamni, Director of Specific Crimes Investigation at the Indonesian National Police (INP) Criminal Investigation Agency, stated that the number of suspects in the alleged forest and land fire case has increased to 89, up from 72 previously.

He explained that the number of suspects increased due to the intensified investigation by police, particularly the Directorate of Specific Crimes Investigation at the scene of the forest and land fires.

"To date, there have been 189 police reports. This represents an increase from yesterday. So, we are intensively and proactively searching for the perpetrators of the arson. There are approximately 89 suspects," he said when met in Central Jakarta on Friday (8/28/2026).

Irhamni stated that these dozens of individuals are currently individual suspects. However, investigators are continuing to examine evidence to determine whether there were transactions or orders from corporations.

"Don't worry. If there is any evidence, no matter how small, that confirms that it was indeed an order from a corporation, we will pursue it and take action," he said.

The one-star police general stated that the police are not only addressing forest and land fires through enforcement, but also through education and outreach activities.

He added that hundreds of personnel from the INP Education and Training Institute have been deployed to educate the public about forest and land fire prevention.

"So that the public understands the dangers of burning land and forest areas during prolonged dry seasons like El Niño," he said.
